Intro

Quixote is a name shared by several entities, but the most historically significant is the Kalamazoo, Michigan post-hardcore trio active from 1997 to 2000. Comprised of members from Jihad and later Keleton DMD, they were central to the Makoto Recordings aesthetic.

Their sound is defined by a 'Midwest Emo' foundation combined with the more aggressive, angular structures of post-hardcore. Later iterations of the name include a Massachusetts-based rock outfit and a Berlin/London alternative group, the latter of which received critical comparisons to Nick Cave and Radiohead for their dark, cinematic approach. The Michigan group remains a cult favorite among crate-diggers of the late-90s emo scene, noted for their split with Trans Megetti and their ability to blend political undertones with deeply personal, existential lyricism. Their career arc represents the transition from the DIY hardcore of the 90s into the more melodic, expansive indie rock of the early 2000s.
