Psychic Ills

Hazy, sun-bleached psychedelia that feels like a long desert drive. Hypnotic rhythms and dusty melodies for when you want to drift away.

Intro

Psychic Ills create a sound that feels like it was recorded in a room filled with thick smoke and golden hour light. It is a slow-motion take on psychedelia, stripping away the frantic energy of the 60s and replacing it with a steady, hypnotic pulse. The guitars are often drenched in reverb and tremolo, creating a shimmering, liquid texture that feels both vintage and timeless. There is a distinct sense of space in their music, as if every note has room to breathe and decay naturally.

What sets them apart is their commitment to the 'vibe' over traditional song structures. While their later work embraced more melodic, country-tinged songwriting, the core remains a deep, meditative drone. Tres Warren's vocals are often buried slightly in the mix, acting more like another instrument than a focal point. This creates an immersive experience where the listener is invited to sink into the atmosphere rather than follow a narrative.

Start with 'Hazed Dream' for their most accessible and perfectly realized blend of melody and atmosphere. If you prefer something more experimental and abrasive, their debut 'Dins' offers a look at their noisier, more improvisational roots. For a more expansive, collaborative sound, 'Inner Journey Out' showcases their growth into a sophisticated, cosmic-country influenced ensemble.

Psychic Ills are an American experimental rock/psychedelic rock band from New York City, consisting of Tres Warren (vocals/guitar; 1978-2020), Elizabeth Hart (vocals/bass), Adam Amram, Jon Catfish Delorme, and Brent Cordero. They formed in 2003, and have released five albums, one compilation, four EPs and a number of singles. The band was signed to The Social Registry from 2005 to 2010. Since then its albums have been released by Sacred Bones Records.
