High-energy punk rock with a theatrical glam edge. Raw, catchy, and unapologetically loud music for dive bars and coastal road trips.
Psihomodo Pop sounds like the Ramones if they had grown up in the vibrant underground scene of 1980s Zagreb. It is a collision of classic three-chord punk simplicity and a flamboyant, almost glam-rock theatricality. The guitars are crunchy and relentless, driven by a rhythm section that never lets the tempo sag, while the vocals carry a distinctive rasp that balances punk aggression with a playful, winking charm.
What truly sets them apart is the persona of frontman Davor Gobac, whose cross-dressing history and manic stage presence infuse the music with a sense of unpredictable fun. They manage to be both a serious rock band and a satirical commentary on rock stardom itself, often leaning into self-deprecating humor and sharp, catchy hooks that demand to be shouted along to in a crowded room.
Start with their debut, Godina zmaja. It captures the band at their most vital and raw, containing the foundational hits that defined their sound. From there, explore their mid-career shift into garage rock on albums like Srebrne Svinje to hear how they matured without ever losing their essential, bratty energy.
Psihomodo Pop is a Croatian and Yugoslav rock band formed in Zagreb in 1982. Psihomodo Pop gained the attention of Yugoslav public and media in the mid-1980s with their Ramones-influenced punk rock sound, energetic live performances, and cross-dressing image of their frontman Davor Gobac. The band released their debut album Godina zmaja in 1988, achieving nationwide popularity. During 1989 and 1990, the band performed abroad, attracting the attention of international media. Their second studio album Sexy magazin, released in 1990, repeated the success of their debut and maintained their mainstream popularity in Yugoslavia. After the dissolution of Yugoslavia, the band continued their activity in independent Croatia by releasing several commercially successful albums, turning towards garage and alternative rock. On their recent releases, the band returned towards their early rock and roll-influenced sound. Psihomodo Pop has released 12 studio albums up to date, featuring a number of popular covers of songs by international artists, and has maintained a cult following in all former Yugoslav republics.
