Quirky toy-instrument electronica paired with breathy, intimate vocals. A collage of found sounds and domestic warmth for quiet, creative afternoons.
Psapp sounds like a secret laboratory hidden inside a child's playroom. Their music is a tactile, clattering assembly of 'toytronica' where glockenspiels, squeaky toys, and homemade bone-instruments provide the rhythmic backbone. Over these jittery, organic loops, Galia Durant’s vocals float with a breathy, almost whispered intimacy that makes every track feel like a shared confidence. It is music that feels small in scale but vast in imagination, turning the mundane sounds of a house into a rhythmic playground.
What truly distinguishes the duo is their commitment to the 'found sound' aesthetic without ever losing the pop hook. While other experimental electronic acts might lean into harsh noise, Psapp keeps things melodic and charming. They use digital glitches not to disrupt, but to add texture, like the crackle of a well-loved vinyl record. The contrast between Carim Clasmann's sophisticated studio engineering and the deliberate use of 'silly' noises creates a sound that is both technically impressive and emotionally approachable.
Start with 'Hi' or the 'Grey's Anatomy' theme 'Cosy in the Rocket' to hear their signature blend of mechanical precision and whimsical heart. It is the perfect entry point for anyone who loves the idea of electronic music that feels hand-crafted rather than computer-generated. Their work is a celebration of the oddities found in the corners of everyday life.
Psapp () is a British experimental electronic music duo. The duo consists of Carim Clasmann and Galia Durant and are sometimes credited with inventing a musical style known as "toytronica", a form of electronic music made with toys and toy instruments. They are also noted for their use of found sounds and homemade instruments, including the meowing of live cats, a "mechanical chicken", and a xylophone-like instrument made of bones they call the "boneaphone". They have released five albums, a Japan exclusive mini-album, Northdown, and five EPs. Psapp composed the song "Cosy in the Rocket", the main theme on the medical-drama TV series Grey's Anatomy, for which they have received multiple BMI awards. Some of their other songs have been used in other American TV shows such as The OC and Nip/Tuck as well as the UK Channel 4 TV show Sugar Rush. In 2015 they were chosen by David Byrne to play at the Meltdown Festival in London. Psapp's fourth album, What Makes Us Glow, was released on 11 November 2013, and their fifth album Tourists, was released on 2 September 2019, both under the label The state51 Conspiracy. Psapp are known for their humour on stage, throwing toy cats (hand-made by the band) into the audience.
