Preme

Sleek, nocturnal Toronto hip-hop with a heavy melodic lean. High-gloss trap beats and confident flows for city driving and late-night energy.

Intro

Preme delivers the quintessential sound of the Toronto night. It is music that feels expensive, polished, and deeply connected to the 'Reps Up' aesthetic. The production is characterized by heavy sub-bass, shimmering synth pads, and crisp, snapping percussion that demands a high-quality sound system. There is a specific tension between his street-oriented lyricism and the smooth, melodic delivery that has become a hallmark of the OVO-adjacent scene.

What sets Preme apart is his ability to bridge the gap between aggressive trap energy and radio-ready R&B hooks. While many of his contemporaries lean entirely into one or the other, Preme maintains a gritty perspective even when the production is at its most melodic. His flow is often rhythmic and staccato, cutting through dense, atmospheric beats with a clarity that feels both urgent and relaxed.

Start with the 'Dear America' EP to hear him at his most collaborative and hungry, particularly the standout 'DnF'. For his more modern, global-facing sound, the Post Malone collaboration 'Jackie Chan' shows his evolution into a versatile hitmaker who can command a dancefloor without losing his hip-hop foundation.

Raynford Avery Humphrey (born January 8, 1986), better known by his stage name Preme ( PREEM; formerly P Reign), is a Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He initially guest appeared on the 2011 singles "Alone Again" by Alyssa Reid and "Invincible" by Hedley. The songs peaked at numbers 11 and nine on the Canadian Hot 100, respectively. He signed with RCA Records to release his debut extended play Dear Summer EP (2014), which contained the singles "DnF" (featuring Drake and Future), "Chickens" (featuring Waka Flocka Flame) and "We Them Niggas" (featuring ASAP Rocky). In 2018, he rebranded in favor of the stage name Preme, subsequently launching his own label Reps Ups Entertainment in a joint-venture with Columbia Records. That same year, his song "Jackie Chan" (featuring Post Malone) became a minor hit and spawned a remix by Tiësto and Dzeko; this version marked his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100.
