Intro

Plini creates music that feels like a high-resolution photograph of a sunrise. While many of his peers in the progressive metal scene lean into darkness or aggression, Plini's work is fundamentally bright and optimistic. His guitar playing is characterized by a 'liquid' quality, where complex, hyper-technical runs sound as effortless and natural as a conversation. It is music that celebrates the beauty of structure and the joy of melody.

What sets him apart is the seamless integration of jazz fusion sensibilities into a modern metal framework. You will hear polyrhythmic drumming and heavy, syncopated riffs, but they are always serving a larger, often beautiful, melodic arc. The production is immaculately clean, allowing every subtle ghost note on the snare and every shimmering synth layer to occupy its own space in the stereo field.

Start with 'Handmade Cities' to hear the definitive blueprint of his sound. It is an album that manages to be both intellectually stimulating for musicians and deeply pleasant for casual listeners. Whether you are looking for a soundtrack for deep focus or something to elevate a morning commute, his catalog offers a consistently high-quality experience of modern instrumental artistry.

Plini Roessler-Holgate (born 1992 or 1993), known mononymously as Plini, is an Australian guitarist and songwriter. He began his career by releasing music under the name Halcyon, before switching to the use of his first name. Steve Vai described him as "the future of exceptional guitar playing", and the website MusicRadar named Plini the best prog guitarist of 2017. Plini has released a trilogy of extended plays (Other Things and Sweet Nothings in 2013, The End of Everything in 2015). His debut album, Handmade Cities, which Vai described as "one of the finest, forward-thinking, melodic, rhythmically and harmonically deep instrumental guitar records [he has] ever heard", was released in 2016. Sunhead, an EP, was released in 2018, followed by his second full-length album, Impulse Voices, in 2020.
