Hypnotic, high-velocity techno built from interlocking modular loops. It feels like a high-speed chase through a futuristic city. Pure, relentless energy.
Planetary Assault Systems is the sound of techno at its most functional and psychedelic. It is music built for the dark, for the loud, and for the long haul. The tracks are often constructed around a single, mutating modular sequence that coils and uncoils over a punishing, perfectly engineered kick drum. It doesn't rely on cheap drops or vocal hooks; instead, it uses repetition to create a sense of forward motion that feels both mechanical and organic.
What sets this project apart is Luke Slater's ability to make electronic music feel alive. There is a specific 'wiggle' to the synth lines - a liquid, slippery quality that keeps the brain engaged even when the rhythm is unwavering. It is sci-fi music that avoids the cliches of the genre, opting for a gritty, industrial realism rather than polished space-opera tropes.
For those new to the project, the 'Archives' collections are essential for understanding the foundations of the UK techno sound. If you want something more modern and expansive, 'Arc Angel' showcases the height of Slater's modular synthesis expertise. This is music for when you want to disappear into the rhythm and let the machines take over.
