Gritty, sample-heavy electronic anthems that bridge the gap between 90s rave nostalgia and occult basement pop. Perfect for late nights in industrial spaces.
Pictureplane sounds like a haunted rave happening inside a broken VHS player. It is a collision of high-energy dance rhythms and a murky, lo-fi aesthetic that feels both futuristic and deeply nostalgic for the early 90s. The music is defined by its thick, distorted basslines, shimmering synth melodies, and vocals that are often buried under layers of reverb and digital grit.
What makes Travis Egedy's project distinctive is his ability to take the 'witch house' sound he helped define and inject it with a genuine sense of pop melody and punk-rock urgency. While his peers often leaned into pure nihilism, Pictureplane maintains a sense of transcendental euphoria, using 'rave stabs' and house beats to create a sound that is as much about spiritual release as it is about dark aesthetics.
Start with 'Dark Rift' to understand the foundational shift he caused in the indie-electronic landscape. It captures the raw energy of the Denver DIY scene and remains the definitive document of his 'dimensional' pop sound, blending catchy hooks with experimental production that still feels ahead of its time.
