Intro

Patric Catani is a seminal figure in the German electronic underground, particularly within the digital hardcore and breakcore movements. Emerging from the Cologne rave scene in the early 90s, he began producing on an Amiga 500, a choice that defined his signature gritty, sample-heavy sound.

His early work as E de Cologne helped establish the template for high-speed, aggressive techno that would later evolve into breakcore. As a key member of EC8OR and a frequent collaborator on Alec Empire’s Digital Hardcore Recordings (DHR), he bridged the gap between punk attitude and electronic production. His career arc is marked by a restless experimentation, moving from the harsh political noise of DHR to the satirical 'grotesque entertainment' of his Candie Hank alias and eventually into acclaimed video game scoring. His influence is felt across the glitch and IDM landscapes, where his pioneering use of low-bit hardware and arcade aesthetics remains a touchstone for producers interested in the intersection of noise and rhythm.
