Intro

Os Azeitonas craft a brand of pop rock that is quintessentially Portuguese yet universally charming. Their sound is built on a foundation of warm acoustic guitars, bright piano melodies, and a brass section that adds a celebratory, almost theatrical flair to their arrangements. It is music that feels lived-in and friendly, avoiding the coldness of modern electronic pop in favor of a lush, organic ensemble sound that highlights the chemistry between its multiple vocalists.

What truly sets them apart is their ability to balance irony and sincerity. They often lean into a 'vintage' aesthetic, referencing old radio tropes or classic cinema, but they ground it in very relatable, modern storytelling. The interplay between Marlon, Nena, and Salsa creates a conversational dynamic within the songs, making each track feel like a short story or a shared joke among friends. Their melodies are deceptively simple, designed for mass singalongs while maintaining a sophisticated harmonic structure.

Start with 'Anda Comigo Ver os Aviões' to understand their romantic, nostalgic core, then move to 'Ray-Dee-Oh' for their more energetic, retro-inspired side. Their album 'AZ' serves as a perfect summary of their polished yet playful approach to the Portuguese pop landscape.

Os Azeitonas are a Portuguese pop rock band from Porto, formed in 2002. Having gone through various formations - a five-member "garage-boysband", a four-member pop-rock group - now as a trio, with members Mario Brandão "Marlon" (vocals), Luísa Barbosa "Nena" (vocals) and João Salcedo "Salsa" (vocals and keyboard), the group has released five full-length albums and two DVDs. The band is known for their successful singles "Quem És Tu Miúda," "Anda Comigo Ver os Aviões," "Café Hollywood," "Ray-Dee-Oh" and "Tonto de Ti". The fifth album, AZ, was released on July 8, 2018, by Parlophone, EMI Music Portugal's successor. The band has been nominated for two awards for Best Portuguese Act of MTV Europe Music Awards.
