Swirling cosmic horror that fuses black metal intensity with hypnotic krautrock grooves. A psychedelic trip through the dark corners of the galaxy.
Imagine the cold, abrasive shrieks of black metal being sucked into a whirlpool of 1970s space rock and motorik rhythms. This is music that feels both ancient and futuristic, trading traditional blast beats for hypnotic, repetitive grooves that build into towering walls of psychedelic noise. It is dense, murky, and deeply immersive, favoring atmosphere and texture over standard song structures.
What truly sets them apart is the interplay between the mechanical and the organic. The rhythm section often locks into a steady, trance-like pulse reminiscent of Can or Neu!, while the guitars and synthesizers weave a chaotic web of delay-drenched feedback and eerie melodies. The vocals are a distant, reptilian rasp that sounds less like a human singer and more like a malevolent spirit whispering from the void.
For those new to this Finnish nightmare, Värähtelijä is the essential entry point. It captures their transition from a metal band into a truly unclassifiable entity. It is a long, demanding listen that rewards patience with some of the most vivid, terrifying, and beautiful soundscapes in modern heavy music.
Oranssi Pazuzu is a Finnish psychedelic black metal band formed in 2007. The band originally consisted of vocalist and guitarist Juho "Jun-His" Vanhanen, drummer Jarkko "Korjak" Salo, guitarist Moit, keyboardist and percussionist Ville "Evil" Leppilahti, and bassist Toni "Ontto" Hietamäki. Moit left the band in 2016 and was replaced by Niko "Ikon" Lehdontie of Kairon; IRSE!. The band takes its name from "oranssi", the Finnish word for the color orange, and Pazuzu, a wind demon from Babylonian mythology.
