Okzharp

Okzharp creates a sound that feels like a high-definition photograph of a cold, empty city. It is music built on the architecture of space; every synth stab and drum hit is placed with surgical precision, leaving plenty of room for the listener to breathe. The influence of South African gqom and kwaito provides a skeletal, driving rhythmic foundation that keeps the tracks from ever feeling static, even at their most ambient.

What truly distinguishes the project is the interplay between the clinical, digital production and the human warmth of his collaborators, most notably Manthe Ribane. The vocals are often treated as another instrument, chopped and layered into the mix to create a sense of ghostly presence. It is 'bass music' in the sense that it respects the low-end, but it avoids the aggression of club music in favor of a more sophisticated, tense atmosphere.
