Oak

Oak is a Portuguese death-doom duo consisting of Guilherme Henriques and Pedro Soares. Formed in 2018, they have quickly established a reputation for creating some of the most monolithic and atmospheric music in the extreme metal scene.

Their sound is defined by extremely long song structures, often spanning entire albums, which allow them to explore themes of mortality, nature, and existential dread with a level of detail rarely seen in shorter formats. Their 2023 release, Disintegrate, solidified their position as masters of the 'slow-burn' aesthetic, utilizing a single 45-minute composition to create a narrative of physical and spiritual decay. Critically, they are praised for their ability to maintain tension over long durations and for the organic, almost tactile quality of their production. They sit at the intersection of traditional funeral doom and more modern, atmospheric death metal, drawing comparisons to bands like Bell Witch or Mournful Congregation while maintaining a distinctively gritty, Iberian character.
