Vintage Italian soul with a modern edge. Smoky vocals meet cinematic brass and Motown grooves for a sophisticated, late-night Mediterranean vibe.
Nina Zilli sounds like a lost 1960s Cinecittà soundtrack discovered in a dusty attic and polished to a high-gloss modern sheen. Her music is anchored by a deep reverence for the golden age of soul and the classic Italian 'canzone', blending the grit of Otis Redding with the elegance of Mina. It is warm, brass-heavy, and undeniably stylish.
What sets her apart is the specific intersection of her operatic training and her love for subcultures like ska and reggae. This gives her pop sensibility a rhythmic backbone that feels more muscular than her contemporaries. Her voice carries a natural rasp that suggests a lifetime of late nights, even when she is hitting precise, soaring notes.
Start with 'Sempre lontano' to hear her master the retro-soul aesthetic, or dive into 'L'amore è femmina' for a more upbeat, Eurovision-ready take on the Motown sound. It is the perfect music for anyone who wants their pop to feel timeless, soulful, and just a little bit dangerous.
