Harmonious Dutch pop that feels like a warm hug from a lifelong friend. Acoustic guitars meet polished village-pop melodies for a cozy, sentimental atmosphere.
Listening to Nick & Simon is like stepping into a sun-drenched Dutch village square where everyone knows your name. Their sound is defined by the seamless, almost telepathic vocal harmonies between Nick Schilder and Simon Keizer, creating a sense of companionship and warmth. It is music that prioritizes melody and relatability, blending the organic feel of acoustic guitars with the high-gloss production of modern Nederpop.
What truly sets them apart is their connection to the 'Palingsound' tradition of Volendam, which they modernized for a new generation. While their peers might lean into heavy synthesizers or aggressive club beats, Nick & Simon stayed rooted in a singer-songwriter sensibility. Their songs often feature subtle folk influences and storytelling lyrics that celebrate the small, meaningful moments of everyday life, making them feel like the ultimate 'boys next door' of the Dutch music scene.
For those new to the duo, starting with the album 'Luister' is essential. It captures them at their commercial and creative peak, showcasing the hit-making ability that made them a household name. Whether they are performing a stripped-back ballad or an upbeat, accordion-flecked pop anthem, the core appeal remains the same: two friends singing in perfect harmony about things that matter to everyone.
Nick & Simon were a Dutch singer-songwriter duo composed of Simon Keizer and Nick Schilder. They became popular in their home country the Netherlands in 2006. Their album Luister (Listen) reached double platinum status in four months. In June 2011 they tried to find "the American Dream" in their TV documentary show, Nick & Simon, The American Dreamteam. Nick made his first TV appearance on the show Idols, the Dutch version of Idol, where he finished in 11th place. Shortly after, Nick and Simon began to perform together. They were the most booked artists in the Netherlands in 2007. The duo were coaches in the first three seasons of The Voice of Holland. Nick & Simon did not return for the fourth season. The duo announced they will split up after completing their Nu of Ooit tour, citing wanting more room for individual creativity and having long aspired for solo careers.
