Nehemiah

Nehemiah was a seminal 6-piece metalcore outfit hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, active during the genre's critical evolutionary period in the early-to-mid 2000s. Their sound is a complex synthesis of melodic death metal (At the Gates-core) and the chaotic, dissonant structures of the 90s hardcore underground.

Signed to Uprising Records, they released two pivotal works: the LP 'The Asphyxiation Process' (2003) and the EP 'Lenore' (2005). Unlike many of their contemporaries who leaned into the 'emo-metal' trend of the era, Nehemiah maintained a gritty, technical edge characterized by experimental riffing and a lack of clean-vocal hooks. The band was frequently misidentified as a Christian act due to their name, a misconception they actively clarified as a secular group. Following their dissolution in 2005, members dispersed into notable heavy acts such as Dead to Fall and Iron Thrones, cementing their influence on the Midwestern heavy music lineage. They are remembered by collectors and genre historians for their technical proficiency and the dark, claustrophobic atmosphere of their recordings.
