Gritty Italian rock with a traveler's heart. Bluesy riffs and raspy vocals meet cinematic, desert-inspired textures for a restless, high-energy experience.
Negrita sounds like the intersection of classic rock swagger and a restless, modern Italian identity. Their music is built on a foundation of dual-guitar interplay that owes a debt to the Rolling Stones, but it is filtered through an alternative rock lens that feels both grounded and expansive. There is a tactile, dusty quality to their sound, often evoking the feeling of a long journey through open landscapes, punctuated by sharp, rhythmic grooves and bluesy harmonica flourishes.
What sets them apart is Paolo 'Pau' Bruni's distinctive vocal presence. His voice carries a natural rasp and a sense of lived-in experience that lends weight to their lyrics, whether they are tackling social frustration or personal introspection. While many of their contemporaries lean into polished pop-rock, Negrita maintains a gritty edge, incorporating elements of funk and Latin percussion that give their rhythm section a more muscular, danceable pulse than standard hard rock.
For those new to the band, the early 2000s era represents their peak of cultural impact. Their music is ideal for moments that require a sense of momentum and grit, serving as the perfect soundtrack for a long drive where the destination matters less than the movement itself. It is rock music that feels lived-in, slightly bruised, but ultimately resilient.
Negrita is an Italian rock band from Arezzo, Tuscany. Formed in 1991, the band was named after the song "Hey Negrita", included in The Rolling Stones' album Black and Blue, released in 1976. The band currently consists of Paolo Bruni (also known as "Pau"), Enrico Salvi (known as "Drigo") and Cesare "Mac" Petricich. After recording several demos, the band's first album, Negrita, was released in 1994 by Mercury and Black Out. Up to 2014, the band had released eight studio albums, including the platinum-selling XXX in 1997, Reset in 1999 and HELLdorado in 2008. The band also released two compilation albums, Hei! Negrita in 2003 and Déjà Vu in 2013; the latter became their first album to reach the top of the Italian Albums Chart. The band has received three nominations at the MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Italian Act in 1999, 2003 and 2005. In January 2012, their album Reset was ranked 77th in the list of the 100 Best Italian Albums of All Time compiled by the Italian version of the music magazine Rolling Stone.
