Sweeping, cinematic rock driven by Giuliano Sangiorgi's acrobatic vocals. Mediterranean passion meets stadium-sized alternative energy for deep emotional release.
Negramaro sounds like the intersection of a dusty Italian square and a high-tech recording studio. Their music is defined by a lush, widescreen approach to rock, where traditional piano and acoustic foundations are frequently overtaken by surging electric guitars and sophisticated electronic textures. It is music that feels physically large, designed to fill arenas while maintaining a bruised, intimate heart.
What truly sets them apart is the vocal performance of Giuliano Sangiorgi. He possesses a rare ability to pivot from a gravelly, soulful baritone to a piercing, operatic falsetto within a single phrase. This vocal elasticity gives their songs a sense of constant movement and emotional volatility, mirroring the 'Negroamaro' wine they are named after: dark, complex, and slightly bitter but ultimately rich.
Start with 'Mentre tutto scorre' to hear the band at their most explosive and definitive. If you prefer something more atmospheric and modern, 'Amore che torni' showcases their evolution into a more electronic-inflected, polished sound that still retains their signature Mediterranean soul.
Negramaro is an Italian rock band formed in 1999 and successful since 2005. Their name stems from Negroamaro, a wine produced in their native district of Salento in Apulia. After years spent in the Italian alternative market, they became more widely known in 2005 thanks to their participation in the Sanremo Music Festival 2005 with the song "Mentre tutto scorre". The band published nine studio albums, reaching four time the number one on the Italian Albums Chart, and several successful singles and collaborations, including "Estate", "Nuvole e lenzuola", "Parlami d'amore", "Meraviglioso", "Basta così" and "Diamanti". Throughout their career they composed two soundtracks albums for the films La febbre directed by Alessandro D'Alatri and Angel of Evil directed by Michele Placido, winning three Nastri d'Argento and being nominated at the David di Donatello. Tha band also won a MTV Europe Music Awards and two Premi Lunezia for songwriting.
