Gritty, high-energy Finnish rock with a husky vocal edge. Vintage 70s energy that turns every room into a wood-paneled barroom party.
Muska is the sound of pure, unadulterated Finnish rock and roll from its golden era. Her music carries a distinct grit, characterized by a raspy, powerful vocal delivery that feels both lived-in and electrifying. It is the sound of the 1970s filtered through a Helsinki lens, where glam rock stomp meets bluesy sincerity. The production is warm and analog, favoring live-sounding drums and biting electric guitars that provide a sturdy foundation for her commanding presence.
What truly sets Muska apart is her ability to take international rock hits and infuse them with a specific Finnish soul. While many of her early successes were covers, she never sounds like an imitator. Instead, she recalibrates the energy of the original tracks into something tougher and more localized. Her voice has a natural 'smoke and honey' quality that bridges the gap between pop accessibility and rock rebellion, making her a singular figure in the Suomi-rock pantheon.
New listeners should start with her 1973 self-titled debut, 'Muska'. It captures her at her most vibrant, featuring the iconic 'Krokotiili-rock'. It is the perfect entry point for anyone wanting to understand how 70s rock translated into the Finnish cultural landscape, offering a mix of high-octane energy and soulful vocal performances.

Muska participated with her brother Georgij "Ykä" Babitzin in the Finnish national final of Eurovision Song Contest, Euroviisut 1974. The entry "Senhän sanoo järkikin" came sixth. In 1979 she again participated in the Finnish national final with her brother Kirka Babitzin and sister Anna Babitzin. The entry "Aikuiset anteeksi antaa" came fourth.
