Moving Units

Moving Units emerged from the Los Angeles underground in 2001, quickly becoming a central figure in the dance-punk and post-punk revival movements. Formed by Chris Hathwell, Blake Miller, and Johan Boegli, the band transitioned from the aggressive hardcore roots of Hathwell's previous project, Festival of Dead Deer, into a more rhythmic, disco-influenced sound.

Their early EPs on Three One G established a reputation for high-intensity live performances, leading to high-profile tours with Interpol and Nine Inch Nails. Their 2004 debut LP, Dangerous Dreams, remains a touchstone of the era, blending the angularity of Gang of Four with the synth-tinged accessibility of New Order. While later work like Hexes for Exes leaned further into traditional indie rock structures, their core identity remains tied to the syncopated, bass-driven energy of the mid-2000s. Critics often highlight their ability to maintain a dark, post-punk atmosphere while delivering pop-sensible hooks, securing their place as a bridge between the art-school underground and the mainstream indie boom.
