Intro

Moreland & Arbuckle sound like a garage band that grew up in the Mississippi Delta but moved to the industrial Midwest. Their music is defined by a heavy, percussive stomp that feels both ancient and modern. It is the sound of amplified dirt, where the traditional acoustic roots of the blues are plugged into high-gain amplifiers and pushed to the breaking point. The interplay between the overdriven harmonica and the unique, often home-made guitar tones creates a thick wall of sound that is far more massive than you would expect from a trio.

What truly distinguishes them is the 'Chainsaw' guitar style: Aaron Moreland often utilizes a cigar-box guitar with a humbucker pickup, producing a low-end growl that bridges the gap between traditional slide blues and stoner rock. Dustin Arbuckle’s vocals and harp playing provide a soulful, melodic counterpoint that keeps the songs grounded in narrative storytelling. They avoid the polished sheen of contemporary blues-pop, opting instead for a textured, analog grit that feels like it was recorded in a single, high-energy take.

Start with the album 'Flood' to hear them at their most cohesive and powerful. It captures the perfect balance of their Hill Country influences and their harder rock edge. If you want something even more aggressive, '7 Cities' leans further into the heavy, distorted side of their sound, while '1861' showcases their rawest, most stripped-back roots.

Moreland & Arbuckle (guitarist Aaron Moreland, vocalist/blues harp Dustin Arbuckle, and drummer Kendall Newby) was an American electric blues/roots rock trio. Moreland described their music as "gritty blues and roots rock from the heartland." After six previous releases, the band signed with Alligator Records in 2015. The label debut, Promised Land Or Bust, was released on May 6, 2016, and was produced by Matt Bayles. In April 2017, the band announced their break-up.
