Intro

Miriam Stockley creates a sound that feels simultaneously ancient and meticulously modern. Her music is defined by 'vocalise' - the use of the voice as a pure instrument, singing phonetic sounds rather than traditional lyrics. This creates a universal, dreamlike quality where the emotional resonance of the melody takes center stage, supported by lush, reverb-heavy production and driving, organic percussion.

What truly sets her apart is her incredible technical precision. Having spent years as a top-tier session singer, she possesses the ability to stack dozens of her own vocal tracks into a shimmering, one-woman cathedral choir. The result is a dense, crystalline texture that feels both physically massive and spiritually light, bridging the gap between Celtic folk, African rhythms, and Western classical music.

Listeners should start with the 'Adiemus' project or her solo album 'Miriam' to hear the full scope of her atmospheric power. It is the perfect soundtrack for anyone seeking music that provides a sense of sanctuary, scale, and sonic purity.

Miriam Arlene Stockley (born 15 April 1962) is a South African singer. She was born in Johannesburg, and her work is influenced by the African music of her home country. Her distinctive vocalise style gained international acclaim when Karl Jenkins launched the Adiemus project with Adiemus: Songs of Sanctuary, with Stockley as the lead singer. In 1992 she performed as a backing vocalist at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, which was broadcast live from the Old Wembley Stadium in London.
