Intro

Mili creates a sound world that is simultaneously fragile and immense, like a porcelain doll performing in a grand, empty cathedral. Their music is defined by Cassie Wei's delicate, breathy vocals which glide effortlessly between English, Japanese, and Chinese, often layered into complex, shimmering harmonies. The instrumentation leans heavily on classical foundations, featuring prominent piano and strings, but it is frequently disrupted by sharp electronic glitches and jazz-influenced rhythmic shifts.

What truly sets them apart is their commitment to world-building. Each track feels like a self-contained myth or a chapter from a lost gothic novel. There is a specific 'clockwork' quality to their production; the drums often mimic the ticking of gears or the mechanical precision of a music box, creating a sense of structured whimsy that can turn dark or melancholic at a moment's notice. It is music for the overactive imagination.

Newcomers should start with the album 'Miracle Milk' to hear the full breadth of their stylistic range. From the glitchy, existential pop of 'world.execute(me);' to the sweeping theatricality of their game soundtracks, it serves as the perfect entry point into their surreal, multilingual universe.

Mili is a Japanese indie music group founded in August 2012, consisting of Cassie Wei, Yamato Kasai, Yukihito Mitomo, Shoto Yoshida, and Ao Fujimori. Mili covers electronic classical, contemporary classical, and post-classical genres of music in Japanese, English, Chinese, and French. Apart from releasing their own songs, Mili has also contributed their music, lyrics, and/or songs to various media such as video games, commercial video, and for other artists. Mili is labeled under Saihate Records; as of October 2019 and announced in April 2020, they have separated from their music management company. Three of their released CDs placed first in the Oricon Indies chart, and they appeared in Summer Sonic 2017 and 2018. The group is named after the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, "Dear Mili." The band has also released music under the name AWAAWA.
