Middle Class

Blistering speed meets jagged, intellectual tension. The sound of suburban boredom exploding into the blueprint for hardcore punk and dark post-punk.

Intro

Middle Class sounds like a panic attack caught in a pressure cooker. Their early material is a blur of high-velocity downstrokes and barked vocals that essentially invented the hardcore punk template by accident. It is music stripped of all fat, leaving only a skeletal, vibrating core of pure urgency that feels like it might snap at any second.

What makes them truly distinctive is their rapid evolution from that raw speed into something far more angular and atmospheric. While their peers stayed fast, Middle Class leaned into the cold, rhythmic tension of the UK post-punk scene. They traded sheer velocity for a brittle, jagged sound that feels both intellectual and deeply anxious, creating a bridge between the mosh pit and the art gallery.

Start with the 'Out of Vogue' EP to hear the birth of hardcore in real-time. Then, move to 'Homeland' to experience their shift into dark, brooding post-punk. It is a fascinating trajectory for a band that refused to be defined by the very genre they helped create.

Middle Class were an American punk rock band established in 1977 from Orange County, California. The band consisted of Jeff Atta on vocals, Mike Atta on lead guitar, Mike Patton (not to be confused with Mike Patton) on bass, and Bruce Atta on drums.
