Intro

Max Cooper creates music that feels like a bridge between the cold precision of mathematics and the warm chaos of biological life. His sound is defined by immense clarity, where every tiny glitch and shimmering synth note has a specific, calculated place in the stereo field. It is music that demands your full attention, rewarding the listener with complex layers that reveal themselves slowly over time.

What truly sets him apart is his background in computational biology, which informs how he structures his compositions. He doesn't just write melodies; he simulates growth and decay, using algorithms to create rhythms that feel both alien and deeply organic. This results in a unique tension between the dancefloor and the laboratory, where a driving techno beat might suddenly dissolve into a fragile, piano-led ambient passage.

For those new to his work, Emergence is the essential starting point. It perfectly encapsulates his ability to tell a story through sound, tracing the history of the universe from the Big Bang to the rise of civilization. It is an immersive experience that works just as well for a focused work session as it does for a solitary late-night headphones listen.

Max Cooper (born 19 May 1980) is a London-based electronic and techno music producer who has been releasing music since 2007. He has received positive reviews from magazines such as Clash and critical acclaim for his debut album Human. Cooper has released more than seventy original tracks and remixes, and more than twenty accompanying video works, primarily on London label Fields and German label Traum Schallplatten. His remixes range from avant-garde composers Michael Nyman and Nils Frahm, to bands like Hot Chip and Au Revoir Simone, to techno acts such as Agoria, Sasha and Guy Andrews.
