Formed in Lawrence, Kansas, in 1997, Mates of State is an American indie pop duo consisting of married musicians Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel. The pair handles vocals and various instrumentation, including organ, drums, and synthesizers. Throughout their career, they have released seven full-length albums and four EPs. Their discography includes the 2011 record Mountaintops, with their work distributed through labels such as Barsuk Records and Polyvinyl.
