Marching Church

Marching Church began as the solo experimental outlet for Elias Bender Rønnenfelt, the frontman of the Danish punk band Iceage. Over time, it evolved into a formidable supergroup of the Copenhagen underground, featuring members from Lower, Puce Mary, and Choir of Young Believers.

This evolution marked a shift from harsh, insular noise-rock toward a more expansive, theatrical art-rock sound. The project is defined by its rejection of traditional punk structures in favor of soul, jazz, and cabaret influences, often drawing comparisons to the Birthday Party-era Nick Cave or the decadent art-rock of David Bowie. Critically, the band is praised for its 'European' sensibility, blending high-art pretension with low-life grit. Their discography reflects a restless search for emotional honesty through artifice, moving from the lo-fi sketches of 'At Night' to the sophisticated, brass-heavy arrangements of 'Telling It Like It Is.' They remain a central pillar of the 'Posh Isolation' scene, representing the more melodic yet equally nihilistic side of Danish contemporary rock.
