Intro

Manizha creates a sound that is simultaneously massive and intimate, blending the intricate polyphony of Tajik folk traditions with the sharp edges of modern Russian art-pop. Her music feels like a staged production where the fourth wall has been smashed; it is theatrical, colorful, and unapologetically loud about its intentions. You'll hear lush vocal stacks that sound like a one-woman choir, underpinned by heavy electronic beats and soulful piano melodies.

What truly sets her apart is the friction between her heritage and her contemporary environment. She uses her voice as a versatile tool, moving from delicate, breathy verses to powerful, chest-thumping belts that demand attention. Her production often features 'found sounds' and DIY textures that give the music a tactile, lived-in quality, even when the arrangements reach maximalist, orchestral heights.

Start with 'Russian Woman' to hear her most iconic cultural statement, then dive into 'Manuscript' for a more delicate look at her songwriting. If you want to feel the full weight of her production, 'Black Swan' offers a darker, more experimental entry point into her world.

Manizha Dalerovna Sangin (Russian: Мани́жа Дале́ровна Санги́н; née Khamrayeva Russian: Хамра́ева; Tajik: Ҳамроева; born 8 July 1991), known mononymously as Manizha, is a Russian-Tajik singer and songwriter, as well as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Beginning her career in 2003 as a child singer, Manizha went on to perform with the music groups Ru.Kola, Assai, and Krip De Shin, before later pursuing a solo career. She represented Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song "Russian Woman".
