Intro

Makano represents the softer, more vulnerable side of the reggaeton explosion. While his peers were often focused on club-shaking intensity, his music leans into the 'Romantic Style' movement, where the hard-hitting dembow rhythm is softened by lush synthesizers and pop-oriented melodies. It is music that feels like a warm breeze in Panama City, balancing the street-level energy of urban music with the heart-on-sleeve sincerity of a ballad singer.

What makes him truly distinctive is his vocal approach. He possesses a high, clear tenor that cuts through the mix with a sense of urgent longing. Unlike the gritty or gravelly tones common in the genre, Makano’s voice is polished and melodic, often utilizing catchy hooks that stay in your head for days. His production choices favor bright, clean digital textures that give his tracks a timeless, nostalgic quality for anyone who lived through the Latin pop boom of the late 2000s.

To get the full experience, start with his massive hit 'Te Amo'. It perfectly encapsulates his ability to turn a simple romantic sentiment into a rhythmic anthem. From there, explore the 'Te Amo' album to hear how he blends tropical influences with urban beats, creating a sound that is as suitable for a lonely bedroom listen as it is for a crowded dance floor.

Hernán Enrique Jiménez Pino (born May 7, 1983), is a Panamanian singer better known by his stage name Makano. At the age of 12, Jiménez was part of a reggaeton group called "Los Makanos". The members of the group made a promise that the first of them to record a full album would carry on the group's name. Makano in Panama and Colombia means "strong like a tree". When he was 16, Jiménez was writing quality music, but his father discouraged him from music, saying he needed to get a real job. After several years of trying, an opportunity appeared and Jimenez appeared on the CD La Alianza in 2004. Afterward, he was given the chance to record several songs, which later became number one hits in Panama. In 2007, Jimenez signed with Panama Music and recorded his first album as a solo singer: Te Amo Rosemary, which features the songs "Yo Quisiera Vivir", "Te Va a Doler", "Te Amo" and "Déjame Entrar". In the week of May 23 and May 30, 2009, Te Amo was number 1 on Billboard Hot Latin Songs.
