Gritty Southern baritone meets polished Nashville country. Heartfelt, faith-driven anthems with a dusty, front-porch soul for long drives and Sunday mornings.
Mac Powell carries the weight of a Southern preacher and the easy charm of a country star. His music is built on a foundation of warm acoustic guitars, Hammond B3 organ swells, and a rhythm section that feels like it was born in a garage in Alabama but raised in a Nashville studio. It is big, resonant, and unapologetically sincere.
What truly separates him from the pack is that unmistakable voice. It is a thick, gravelly baritone that can pivot from a gentle, intimate whisper to a stadium-shaking roar without losing its soulful edge. While his roots are in Christian rock, his solo work leans heavily into Americana and traditional country, blending spiritual conviction with the storytelling tropes of the American South.
Start with 'New Creation' to hear his modern, polished take on faith-pop, or dive into his self-titled 2012 debut if you want to hear him fully embrace his love for the Nashville sound and classic country instrumentation.
Mac Powell (born Johnny Mac Powell; December 25, 1972), originally from Clanton, Alabama, United States, is an American singer, songwriter, producer, and musician who formed the Christian rock band Third Day with guitarist Mark Lee, with both of them being the only continuous members of the band, as well as being a solo artist.
