Intro

Maan creates a sound that is the sonic equivalent of a high-definition sunset over a Dutch cityscape. Her music occupies the sweet spot between mainstream dance-pop and the rhythmic, urban-influenced 'Nederpop' revival. It is characterized by polished electronic production, heavy synth layers, and a vocal style that can shift from a vulnerable, breathy whisper to a powerful, stadium-filling belt in a single chorus.

What truly sets her apart is her chameleon-like ability to bridge genres. While her foundation is pure pop, she effortlessly integrates elements of trap, R&B, and house music, often through high-profile collaborations with the biggest names in the Dutch rap scene. This results in tracks that feel equally at home on a massive festival stage or a late-night radio rotation, maintaining a sophisticated sheen that avoids the cliches of bubblegum pop.

Listeners should start with the record-breaking 'Stiekem' for a masterclass in modern Dutch synth-pop, or 'Ze Huilt Maar Ze Lacht' to hear her more emotive, stripped-back side. Her work is essential for anyone wanting to understand the current pinnacle of the Netherlands' domestic music scene, offering a perfect blend of commercial appeal and genuine vocal talent.

Maan de Steenwinkel (born 10 February 1997), also known mononymously as Maan, is a Dutch singer. She first came to prominence after winning season six of The Voice of Holland. She has subsequently taken part in the Dutch television series De beste zangers van Nederland and in the Dutch version of Dance Dance Dance. In 2019, de Steenwinkel became the first The Voice of Holland winner to have a number-one single on the Dutch Top 40 with "Hij is Van Mij". In 2023, her song "Stiekem" with Goldband became the biggest Dutch-language hit single of all time, according to the Dutch Top 40.
