Lumerians

Hypnotic, guitar-free space rock driven by propulsive motorik rhythms and thick clouds of vintage synth. Darkly cinematic and deeply immersive.

Intro

Lumerians craft a sound that feels like a lost science fiction soundtrack from a decade that never happened. It is heavy, rhythmic, and deeply psychedelic, but it achieves this intensity without the traditional crutch of distorted guitars. Instead, they build towering walls of sound using vintage organs, modular synths, and a relentless, driving percussion section that pulls from both Krautrock and tribal traditions.

What makes them truly distinctive is the 'organic-mechanical' tension in their music. While the rhythms are often rigid and motorik, the textures on top are fluid, murky, and warm. The vocals are treated as another instrument in the mix, often buried under layers of reverb or used as a rhythmic chant, adding to the sense that you are listening to a transmission from a distant, slightly ominous planet.

Start with 'Call of the Void' for their most refined and aggressive take on this sound. It captures the band at their most propulsive, offering a perfect entry point into their world of dark, shimmering electronics and hypnotic grooves.

Lumerians is a San Francisco Bay Area-based quartet which has a psychedelic "mindbender" space rock sound. The group is notable for performances characterized by "transcendent live video projections" and having "incredible visuals", according to one music critic. One critic described the band as "Oakland's prize pony in the Bay Area gloom-folk horse race". The sound has been compared to Krautrock with overtones of 1960s music.
