Gritty, high-friction rock that bridges the gap between post-punk gloom and heavy metal weight. Raw energy for rainy city nights and basement speakers.
Loud was a British hard rock and alternative metal band formed in 1989 in Bradford, England. The group was founded by guitarist Chris McLaughlin following his tenure as a live guitarist for the influential post-punk band New Model Army.
This lineage is critical to their sound, which inherited New Model Army's rhythmic drive and political edge but amplified it through a heavy metal lens. Their debut album, D Generation (1991), was co-produced by Jaz Coleman of Killing Joke, adding an industrial, gothic-rock weight to their compositions. Despite critical interest and a sound that anticipated the mid-90s alternative metal boom, the band remained a cult favorite rather than a mainstream success. Their work is characterized by dense guitar layering, tribal-influenced drumming, and a dark, urban atmosphere. They released two full-length albums and several EPs before disbanding, leaving behind a legacy as a bridge between the 80s UK post-punk scene and the heavier alternative sounds of the 1990s.
