Intro

Lou Rhodes creates music that feels like a whispered secret shared in a quiet room. Her sound is defined by an incredible sense of proximity; the vocals are often so close-mic'd that you can hear every intake of breath, creating an immediate emotional bond between the artist and the listener. While her history is rooted in the electronic pulses of Lamb, her solo work shed the machines in favor of the vibrating string and the wooden body of the guitar.

What makes her distinctive is the way she retains the rhythmic sensibilities of her trip-hop past but translates them into organic, finger-picked patterns and subtle percussion. There is a spiritual, almost pastoral quality to her arrangements, often augmented by the elegant inclusion of harp, cello, and upright bass. It is music that values space and silence as much as melody, never rushing to reach a crescendo.

Start with 'Beloved One' to hear the definitive transition from electronic icon to folk poet. It captures a specific kind of domestic grace and romantic vulnerability that is rare in its lack of artifice. It is the perfect entry point for anyone who loves the intersection of hushed singer-songwriter intimacy and sophisticated chamber arrangements.

Lou Rhodes is an English singer and songwriter from Manchester, now living in Wiltshire. In addition to providing vocals and lyrics for the band Lamb, Rhodes has released four solo albums: Beloved One, Bloom and One Good Thing and theyesandeye. Rhodes has collaborated with 808 State, A Guy Called Gerald, Funkstörung, Pale 3, Sugizo, Plump DJs, Sheila Chandra, Eliza Carthy, Art of Noise, and The Cinematic Orchestra on Ma Fleur and the soundtrack to The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos. In 2023, Rhodes formed new project Kiiōtō with Rohan Heath. The band's debut album, As Dust We Rise, was released in July 2024 on Nude Records.
