Lotto

Lotto is a Polish experimental trio consisting of Mike Majkowski, Łukasz Rychlicki, and Paweł Szpura. Since their formation in 2012, they have carved out a unique niche within the European avant-garde by blending elements of improv, minimalism, and a deconstructed version of Americana.

Their sound identity is rooted in the physical properties of their instruments: the resonance of the upright bass, the tactile scrape of guitar strings, and the dry, unadorned thud of the drum kit. Unlike traditional post-rock which relies on loud-quiet-loud dynamics, Lotto utilizes 'horizontal' progression, where interest is maintained through subtle timbral shifts and rhythmic phasing. Their breakthrough album, 'Elite Feline' (2016), solidified their reputation for long-form, hypnotic compositions that challenge the listener's perception of time. They are closely associated with the Lado ABC label, a hub for Poland's most adventurous music. Critically, they are praised for their ability to evoke vast, cinematic atmospheres without the use of synthesizers or electronics, relying instead on the raw, organic interplay of a highly disciplined ensemble.
