Sun-soaked Australian indie rock with a raw, garage-born energy. Scuzzy guitars and massive hooks for coastal drives and backyard summer hangs.
Loon Lake sounds like the best possible version of a garage band that never quite wanted to leave the garage. Their music is defined by a bright, kinetic energy that feels distinctly Australian: sun-drenched, slightly scuzzy, and deeply melodic. It is the sound of brothers and mates playing for the sheer joy of it, where the occasional vocal crack or unpolished guitar riff only adds to the charm.
What makes them distinctive is the 'frenzied buzz' found in their early demos and EPs. While many indie bands of the 2010s leaned into slicker production, Loon Lake maintained a loose, almost reckless feel. They specialize in power-pop hooks that explode out of lo-fi textures, creating a sense of urgency that feels like a live performance happening right in your living room.
Start with 'Cherry Lips' for their most iconic, infectious chorus, then dive into 'Into The Office' to hear the raw, high-voltage energy that first put them on the map. Their debut album 'Gloamer' is the essential document of their evolution from garage-rockers to festival mainstays.
Loon Lake was an indie rock band based in Melbourne, consisting of brothers Sam Nolan (lead vocals, guitar), Simon Nolan (guitar, vocals), and Nick Nolan (guitars, production), as well as Tim Lowe (bass), and Ricky Birmingham (drums). The band released two EPs, 2011's Not Just Friends and 2012's Thirty Three, the latter of which saw single "Cherry Lips" peak at No. 19 on the ARIA Australian Artists Singles Chart. In 2013, Loon Lake was named one of Triple J magazine's "50 Acts that Matter Right Now". The band released their debut album, Gloamer, on 11 October 2013. They self-released their second and final studio album Low Res in October 2015. The band announced in August 2015 that they would disband at the conclusion of their Final Wave Tour, which ended in November 2015.
