Intro

Larry Graham is the sound of the bass guitar being reinvented in real-time. His music is defined by a physical, percussive energy that hits you in the chest, thanks to his 'thumpin' and pluckin'' technique. It is celebratory, high-wattage funk that feels like a permanent sunshine-soaked street party, where the rhythm section is the undisputed guest of honor.

What makes Graham truly unique is the duality of his artistry. He is simultaneously a world-class rhythm innovator and a smooth-as-silk romantic balladeer. His deep baritone voice provides a grounded, soulful counterpoint to the frenetic energy of his bass lines, allowing him to transition from aggressive funk workouts to tender, orchestral R&B without losing his identity.

Start with his solo breakthrough 'One in a Million You' to hear his romantic side, then immediately pivot to Graham Central Station's 'Release Yourself' to understand the sheer power of his thumb. It is music for people who want to feel the groove as much as they hear the melody.

Larry Graham Jr. (born August 14, 1946) is an American bassist and baritone singer, with the psychedelic soul/funk band Sly and the Family Stone and as the founder and frontman of Graham Central Station. In 1980, he released the single "One in a Million You", which reached the top ten on the US Billboard Hot 100. He is credited with the invention of the slapping technique on the electric bass guitar, which radically expanded the tonal palette of the bass, although he himself refers to the technique as "thumpin' and pluckin'". In 1993, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Sly and the Family Stone. He is also the uncle of rapper Drake.
