La Phaze

La Phaze is a seminal French trio formed in 1999, primarily known for pioneering the 'Pungle' genre, a portmanteau of Punk and Jungle. Founded by Arnaud Fournier and Damny Baluteau, the group emerged from the fertile French alternative scene that sought to fuse the energy of the 1980s punk movement (Bérurier Noir) with the burgeoning electronic dance music of the late 90s.

Their sound identity is characterized by 160-170 BPM breakbeats, heavy dub-inflected bass, and aggressive, often sociopolitical lyricism delivered in a style that sits between rapping and shouting.
