Kinky

High-energy Mexican dance-rock that fuses funky basslines with glitchy electronics. It is the sound of a neon-lit Monterrey night that never wants to end.

Intro

Kinky sounds like a high-speed collision between a garage rock band and a techno club in the heart of Monterrey. Their music is defined by a restless, propulsive energy that refuses to sit still, blending thick, funky basslines with sharp synthesizer stabs and organic Latin percussion. It is bright, loud, and unapologetically rhythmic, carrying the heat of a desert night and the polish of modern electronic production.

What truly sets them apart is their ability to weave traditional regional influences into a futuristic framework. You might hear a sudden flourish of accordion or a rhythmic swing borrowed from cumbia, but it is always processed through a filter of alternative rock and dance music. This 'Avanzada Regia' spirit makes their sound feel deeply rooted in Mexican identity while remaining completely accessible to a global club audience.

For those looking to dive in, their self-titled debut is the essential starting point. It perfectly captures the moment they bridged the gap between the rock en espanol scene and the electronic revolution of the early 2000s. It is music designed for movement, best experienced at maximum volume when you need a shot of pure adrenaline.

Kinky is a Mexican rock band, formed in 1998 as part of the Avanzada Regia musical movement and consisting of Gilberto Cerezo, Ulises Lozano, Carlos Chairez, Omar Góngora, and Cesar Pliego. Although a majority of songs are sung in Spanish, some songs contain English lyrics. Kinky were discovered and signed by Sonic360 Records.
