Kingcrow

Kingcrow is an Italian progressive metal outfit that has evolved significantly since their 1996 inception in Rome. Originally rooted in a more traditional hard rock and heavy metal framework under the name Earth Shaker, the band rebranded and shifted toward a conceptual, progressive approach with the release of Insider (2003).

Their career is marked by a steady refinement of 'cinematic' metal, moving away from the power metal tropes common in the Italian scene toward a sophisticated blend of art rock and alternative metal. The 2010 album Phlegethon served as a critical breakthrough, establishing a darker, more atmospheric identity that would be perfected on subsequent releases like In Crescendo and Eidos. Their sound is defined by Diego Cafolla's intricate guitar arrangements and a heavy reliance on synthesizers to create 'urban' textures. Critically, they are often grouped with the 'modern prog' movement alongside bands like Riverside or Leprous, favored for their balance of technicality and emotional accessibility.
