Kerrier District

Slinky, analog-heavy disco that feels like a lost 1970s soundtrack found in a Cornish basement. Warm grooves for late-night city prowling.

Intro

Kerrier District sounds like the intersection of a dusty disco archive and a futuristic laboratory. It is music built on the skeletal remains of funk and Italo-disco, but reanimated with the dry, witty precision of British IDM. The drums are crisp and punchy, often carrying that unmistakable swing of vintage hardware, while the synth lines range from warm, liquid pads to sharp, squelchy acid chirps.

What makes this project distinctive is its restraint. Unlike the maximalist disco revivals of the same era, Luke Vibert strips the arrangements down to their most essential, rhythmic components. There is a certain 'deadpan' quality to the grooves; they are infectious and danceable, but they never feel desperate for your attention. It is sophisticated without being snobbish, and retro without being a parody.

Start with the self-titled debut album. It perfectly captures the 'British response to Metro Area' aesthetic, offering a masterclass in how to make electronic music feel human, humid, and slightly mischievous. It is the ideal soundtrack for anyone who wants the soul of disco with the brain of a techno producer.

Luke Vibert (born 26 January 1973) is a British electronic musician and producer, also known for his work under several aliases such as Plug and Wagon Christ. Raised in Cornwall, Vibert began releasing projects in the 1990s across varied genres, including techno, drum and bass, and trip hop. He has recorded on labels such as Rephlex, Ninja Tune, Planet Mu, and Warp.
