Katra

Katra is a Finnish symphonic and gothic metal project centered around the classically trained vocals of Katra Solopuro. Formed in Tampere in 2006, the band emerged during the global peak of female-fronted symphonic metal, following in the wake of Nightwish and Within Temptation.

Their sound is characterized by a blend of heavy, power-metal influenced riffing and elaborate orchestral arrangements, often featuring choral elements and cinematic keyboard textures. Their early career was marked by a notable participation in the Finnish national selection for Eurovision, which helped propel their debut self-titled album. After signing with Napalm Records, they achieved international recognition with 'Beast Within' (2008), which re-recorded several tracks in English. Following a decade-long hiatus after 2010's 'Out of the Ashes,' the band returned in 2023, signaling a modernized evolution of their signature gothic-symphonic style. Critically, they are respected for maintaining a darker, more traditional gothic atmosphere than many of their more pop-oriented contemporaries.
