Kari Rueslåtten

Kari Rueslåtten is a foundational figure in the Norwegian atmospheric music scene, initially gaining prominence as the lead vocalist for the pioneering doom metal/experimental band The 3rd and the Mortal. Her work with the band is widely credited with inspiring the 'female-fronted' metal movement, influencing acts like Nightwish and The Gathering.

However, her solo career, launched in the late 1990s, saw her pivot toward a sophisticated blend of folk, pop, and electronic music. Her debut solo album, 'Spindelsinn', was a landmark in Norwegian-language folk-pop, earning her significant critical acclaim and Grammy nominations in Norway. Over the decades, she has oscillated between experimental electronic production (as heard on 'Pilot') and stripped-back, melancholic acoustic folk. Her sound identity is centered on her technical classical training as a soprano, utilized to create intimate, 'breathy' atmospheres rather than operatic displays.
