Kamikaze

Kamikaze is a foundational pillar of the second wave of Argentine heavy metal, emerging in the mid-1980s following the trail blazed by V8. Formed in 1985, the band represented a more melodic and technically refined alternative to the raw aggression of their contemporaries, incorporating significant influences from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), particularly Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.

Their debut album, 'No me detendrán!' (1988), is considered a classic of the regional genre, featuring anthemic songwriting and high-caliber musicianship. The band's trajectory was severely impacted by Argentina's late-80s hyperinflation crisis, which stifled the commercial success of their second effort, 'Víctima del rock'. Despite a breakup in the early 90s, their legacy persisted through the underground tape-trading circuit. Their 2011 reunion and subsequent release 'Dueño de los cielos' solidified their status as elder statesmen of the 'metal argentino' scene. Critically, they are praised for maintaining a high standard of vocal performance and melodic sensibility without sacrificing the 'heavy' core of their identity.
