Soulful, piano-led pop that feels like a private conversation. Intimate storytelling meets a powerful, theatrical voice for moments of quiet reflection.
Jillette Johnson creates music that occupies the space between a hushed secret and a powerful declaration. Her sound is anchored by her commanding piano playing, which serves as both a rhythmic engine and an emotional anchor. There is a distinct theatricality to her delivery, reminiscent of the great 90s piano-pop icons, but filtered through a modern, indie-folk lens that feels grounded and authentic.
What sets her apart is the sheer vulnerability of her songwriting. She doesn't just sing about heartbreak or identity; she dissects them with a surgical precision that can feel startlingly intimate. Her voice can shift from a delicate, breathy whisper to a resonant, soulful belt in a single phrase, mirroring the unpredictable peaks and valleys of a real emotional processing session.
Start with 'Water in a Whale' if you want to hear her most polished, pop-leaning debut, or dive into 'All I Ever See in You Is Me' for a warmer, Dave Cobb-produced experience that highlights her Nashville-influenced maturity and organic instrumentation.
