Jaguares represents the second major chapter in the career of Saúl Hernández, the primary architect of Mexico's 'Rock en Español' movement. Following the dissolution of Caifanes, Hernández formed Jaguares in 1996 as a more fluid, collaborative project.
The band's sound identity is built on a foundation of post-punk and alternative rock, heavily filtered through a Latin American lens that prioritizes spiritual and mythological themes over standard rock tropes. Their debut, 'El Equilibrio de los Jaguares,' is a landmark of the genre, featuring intricate guitar work from José Manuel Aguilera and a dark, atmospheric production style. Over the years, the lineup evolved to include 'El Vampiro' López, whose melodic guitar style steered the band toward a more polished, anthemic sound. Critically, Jaguares are viewed as the bridge between the experimentalism of the 80s and the stadium-rock dominance of the 2000s, maintaining a massive, loyal following until their eventual hiatus and the reformation of Caifanes in 2011.
