Intro

IZZ sounds like the intersection of 1970s grandiosity and 1990s alternative sensibility. Their music is built on a foundation of dual-drummer grooves and interlocking keyboard patterns that feel both mathematically precise and warmly human. It is the kind of sound that rewards a deep, attentive listen, revealing hidden layers of counterpoint and subtle harmonic shifts that you might miss on a casual spin.

What truly sets them apart is their vocal approach. While many prog bands lean into operatic or overly dramatic singing, IZZ utilizes lush, multi-part harmonies that feel more like The Beatles or Renaissance. This melodic accessibility acts as a gateway into their more challenging instrumental sections, creating a balance where the complex time signatures never feel like a chore to follow.

If you are new to the band, start with I Move or Crush of Night. These albums showcase their ability to weave long-form thematic storytelling with punchy, memorable hooks. It is music for people who want the scale of a symphony with the heart of a rock band.

IZZ is a New York-based progressive rock band. Its music is inspired by such classic progressive groups as Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and Renaissance and is often infused with pop hooks à la The Beatles. The band's name comes from the nickname of baseball relief pitcher Jason Isringhausen, who was once on the New York Mets, a team favored by John Galgano. The group has performed at American progressive rock festivals RoSfest, NEARfest, The Rogue Independent Music Festival, CalProg, and ProgDay. IZZ's album Crush of Night, released in May 2012, serves as part 2 of a 3-part series of thematic albums that began with The Darkened Room in 2009. It features a guest appearance by Gary Green of Gentle Giant on "Words and Miracles" (electric guitar, guitar solos and backing vocals) and "The Crush of Night" (guitar solo).
