Iron Fire

Iron Fire is a Danish power metal institution formed in 1995, originally under the moniker Misery. Led by founding vocalist and primary songwriter Martin Steene, the band emerged during the late-90s power metal revival, initially drawing comparisons to Helloween and HammerFall.

However, they quickly carved out a niche due to Steene's unique vocal timbre, which leans closer to the raspy delivery of Vince Neil or Udo Dirkschneider than the typical genre-standard tenor. Their 2000 debut 'Thunderstorm' remains a cult classic of the era. The band's history is marked by significant lineup volatility, yet they maintained a prolific output through the 2000s and 2010s. A mid-career high point was reached with their 'Viking trilogy' (2006-2009), which solidified their reputation for anthemic, mid-tempo battle hymns. Later works like 'Voyage of the Damned' introduced sci-fi elements and expanded keyboard arrangements, while 'Among the Dead' leaned into a heavier, almost thrash-adjacent sound. Critically, they are respected for their consistency and for maintaining a 'true metal' aesthetic that avoids the over-symphonic tropes of modern European power metal.
