Polished 90s boy band R&B featuring youthful harmonies and smooth swingbeat production. Perfect for nostalgic nights and slow-dance memories.
Immature captures the specific, sugary essence of 1990s adolescent R&B. Their sound is defined by high-register harmonies, crisp drum machine patterns, and a production style that bridges the gap between the New Jack Swing era and the smoother, more ballad-heavy late 90s. It is music that feels like a time capsule of a very specific era of American pop culture.
What sets them apart is the genuine youthfulness of their early recordings, which evolved into a more mature, sophisticated R&B sound as the members grew up in the public eye. The interplay between Marques Houston's lead vocals and the group's tight backing harmonies creates a texture that is both lightweight and emotionally resonant, often leaning into themes of teenage heartbreak and puppy love with total sincerity.
Start with 'Playtyme Is Over' to hear them at their commercial peak. It contains their most iconic hits and perfectly demonstrates the transition from their 'worst behavior' beginnings to the smooth, chart-topping R&B act they became.
Immature (later known as IMx) is an American R&B boy band, managed by record producer Chris Stokes. Its members include Marques "Batman" Houston (born August 4, 1981), Jerome "Romeo" Jones (born October 25, 1981), and Kelton "LDB" Kessee (born January 2, 1981), all natives of Los Angeles, where the group was formed. The group released four albums under the Immature moniker: On Our Worst Behavior (1992; the only album to include original member Don "Half Pint" Santos, later replaced by Kessee), Playtyme Is Over (1994), We Got It (1995) and The Journey (1997). In 1999, the group changed its name to IMx, marking ten years of being a group and released two studio albums Introducing IMx and IMx, as well as a Greatest Hits album in 2001. The group also branched out into film (such as House Party 3 and House Party 4: Down to the Last Minute) and television (such as A Different World, Sister, Sister, Family Matters, Soul Train and All That) before disbanding in 2002. On November 6, 2013, Immature performed their first show since reuniting at Club Nokia in Los Angeles with Next and Dru Hill. In September 2019, Immature announced their #TBTour with special guests Ray J, B5 and J. Holiday.
