Hubert von Goisern

High-altitude rock that pairs distorted accordions with gritty blues. Traditional Alpine sounds reimagined as a global, rebellious, and deeply soulful experience.

Intro

Hubert von Goisern sounds like the Alps if they were suddenly relocated to the middle of a delta blues club or a West African village. It is music that feels physically rooted in the earth, carrying the weight of granite peaks and the breath of mountain air, but it is never stagnant. You will hear the familiar squeeze of the accordion, but here it is often played with the aggression of a lead guitar, cutting through thick grooves and driving rock rhythms.

What makes him truly distinctive is the way he weaponizes tradition. He takes the 'Heimat' aesthetic - often associated with conservative nostalgia - and turns it into a vehicle for social commentary and global exploration. His voice moves from a rough-hewn croon to powerful, rhythmic chanting that bridges the gap between traditional yodeling and modern rock shouting, all delivered in a thick, authentic dialect that feels like a secret language.

Start with 'Entwederundoder' to hear his most accessible blend of rock grit and Alpine soul. If you want to hear his more experimental, global side, 'Gombe' offers a fascinating look at his time in Africa. For the purist experience of his 'Alpenrock' roots, the early work with the Alpinkatzen remains the gold standard for the genre.
